Tulsa's "Historic" Pearl District??

All -

What are your thoughts on making the 6th street commercial corridor a listed district on the National Register?

Pro's/Con's?

Has this been discussed before?

Would love to hear the history and everyone's thoughts......

Has anyone heard of the "historic underutilized business" or HUB designation??

My personal strategy:  Live in the Pearl District as though it already is the neighborhood I hope it will become.

My goals in moving to the Pearl District included:  quick access to downtown (Mayfest, Blue Dome, PAC, jobs), neighborhood church, development of local shopping, bicycling my errands and to work, short bike ride to River Park and an easy walk to Cherry Street.  I think the most obtuse observer would see that I want convenience and easy availability to the deluxe life as I've defined it.  My definition of deluxe will not satisfy everyone but it pleases my wife and me.  Not all has progressed at the brisk pace I hoped.  The Mayor and District 4 Councilor have eliminated form based codes for the Pearl District, thus slowing redevelopment.  Positive developments include incremental improvement to the Elm Creek basin flood plane, a beautiful redevelopment of Centennial Park, the Pearl Farmers Market, and the extension of the Midland Valley Bike Trail into the Pearl District.

Ever the optimist, I'm riding my bike around the neighborhood.  I'm trying to buy what I can within a mile of my house.  I've enjoyed walking to Mayfest and the Blue Dome Festival for several years now.  The PAC is so near that transportation is never an issue when considering performances.  I've met many interesting and challenging people since I've moved to the Pearl District that are all connected to this location.  That's the best part of being here and the part I didn't plan on at all.  I'll go to my nearby neighborhood church this Sunday and pray for more happy surprises.
Here is our new blog to discuss and respond to discussion.  Please focus your comments on the Pearl District.  Report any inappropriate postings to the email address listed above.
